Sapporo is the fifth most populated city in Japan with over one million people living within the city. Located on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, the city is renowned for its beer and skiing activities including its Sapporo Snow Festival. The main tourist spot in Sapporo is Odori Park. This park is well-known as the place where the international-level Sapporo Snow Festival event is held.   • Just a ten-minute walk south of JR Sapporo Station, visit Sapporo’s most iconic wooden clock tower which now serves as a museum displaying the city’s history.
  • Explore the Sapporo Maruyama Zoo west of the city, which includes of a variety of different species offering you rare chance to also see some of the world’s most endangered species including the polar bear.
  • You can see a vast panoramic view of the streets of Sapporo from the top of Mount Moiwa; located in the Moiwa primeval forest that is a national natural treasure.

Best time to visit Sapporo

The best time to visit Sapporo is both late spring (March to May) and fall (September to December).  

The summer is great as well (Mid July – Mid August) since the temperature will be cooler than other parts of Japan, and this is the season for Lavenders at the Horomitoge Lavender Garden.

If you also enjoy the cold temperatures, winter is a great season to visit (December - February). You will find great winter activities such as skiing and snowboarding.
